Eye Hospital Website
A clear, reassuring website for Southern Sydney's specialist eye surgery hospital
The brief
Project overview
We designed and built a calm, patient-focused website for Southern Sydney Private Hospital, a specialist eye day-surgery hospital in Miranda. The site helps patients understand what to expect before, during and after surgery, while making key actions easy to find.
The new website introduces the hospital's eye surgery specialists, explains practical patient information in plain English and provides a simple path to online pre-admission. It also reflects the hospital's focus on safety, accreditation and patient-centred care.
This project combined medical website design, thoughtful information architecture and clear content pathways to support older patients, carers and referring health professionals.
How we did it
The case study
The client and the challenge
Southern Sydney Private Hospital is a dedicated eye day-surgery hospital in Miranda. It is licensed by NSW Health and accredited to the National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards, giving patients confidence that their care takes place in a regulated clinical setting.
The hospital's surgeons provide specialist care across cataract, glaucoma, retinal, corneal, refractive and oculoplastic procedures. Many patients visiting the website are older, preparing for surgery or helping a family member understand the process. The website therefore needed to feel calm, trustworthy and simple to use.
The key challenge was to organise detailed clinical and practical information without overwhelming visitors. Patients needed quick access to phone details, opening hours, specialist profiles, pre-admission information, fees, discharge guidance and contact details.
What we did
We created a clean, spacious website that puts the most important information within easy reach. The first screen includes the phone number, opening hours and an enquiry option, helping patients take the next step without searching through multiple pages.
Three clear pathways guide visitors to the main areas of the site: About Our Hospital, For Patients and Our Specialists. This structure supports different user needs, whether someone wants to learn about the facility, prepare for admission or find information about their surgeon.
All twelve surgeons have dedicated profile pages, with their sub-specialties clearly listed. This helps patients and referrers understand the breadth of care available, including cataract surgery, glaucoma management, retinal care, corneal treatment, refractive procedures and oculoplastic surgery.
The For Patients section was designed around the patient journey. It explains pre-admission, fees and charges, what to expect during a hospital stay, discharge, healthcare rights and privacy. Key pages include FAQs, which make complex information easier to scan and understand.
We also added a clear link to the online pre-admission form, reducing friction for patients who are ready to complete the next step. The contact page includes parking, public transport and accessibility information, along with an enquiry form for general questions.
Behind the scenes, the site was built with a manageable content structure for specialists and patient information. This gives the hospital a practical foundation for ongoing updates, future service changes and continued content improvement.
The result
The finished website gives patients a calm, easy-to-follow guide to their surgery journey. It supports informed decision-making, reduces uncertainty and helps visitors move from first enquiry to discharge with greater confidence.
For the hospital, the website now reflects its specialist expertise, accreditation and patient-centred approach. It provides a clear digital front door for patients, carers and referrers, while creating a flexible platform for future growth.
